Jose Rafael Fine Coffee

We carefully source our products. You will be pleased to note that our coffees are at least one of the following; Organic, Rainforest Alliance, Fairtrade or Forest Friendly. These helps make a difference in the coffee farmer’s life.

Our passion for coffee leads us to educate our customers to expect the highest quality in the cup, and to attain it. We recognize our responsibility to our producers by choosing to buy from traders and growers' communities around the world to ensure they receive a fair price for the coffee they produce.

We choose very distinctive high altitude coffees using a wide variety of beans from around the globe. Similar to the wine industry, certain coffee plantations or estates produce their own individual qualities due to climate and processing. It’s these single origin coffees that stand on their own, ie. they don’t need blending. You can distinguish one from another, and also notice subtle changes that occur each year, as in the vintage wine industry.

From these single origin coffees blends which are particularly unusual and unique. For example, he would blend a Central American coffee for its bright and snappy fullness, a vintage Indian for its velvety body and spice, and one of the African coffees for floral sweetness and berry-like flavors. The art is in 'balancing' these individual and sometimes extreme characteristics. Coffee blending is a trail and error process and takes a while to perfect.

We had a vision to source, roast and provide the best quality, most sustainable and best tasting coffee to Davao coffee drinkers. We have built a very loyal following in our first shop at Lanang and now we can broaden our vision and introduce many more people to the unique Jose Rafael’s experience.

Efforts are being undertaken to revive the industry however, with the majority of coffee produced in the mountain areas of Batangas, Bukidnon, Benguet, Cavite, Kalinga Apayao, Davao, and Claveria.
